Chainalysis has filed a federal lawsuit accusing Immigration and Customs Enforcement of improperly directing a $95 million blockchain analytics contract to rival TRM Labs without open competition.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court, asks a judge to block the TRM contract and compel ICE to run a full competitive procurement process. Chainalysis alleges the agency bypassed standard contracting rules in awarding the deal, which covers blockchain surveillance and cryptocurrency tracing services used in federal investigations.
The case lands at a moment when blockchain analytics contracts have become significant revenue sources for the two dominant firms in the space. Chainalysis and TRM Labs together hold most of the major federal agreements covering crypto-related law enforcement work, and the outcome of this dispute will determine which firm controls the largest single ICE contract on record.
