Chainalysis filed suit against the US government on August 17 in the US Court of Federal Claims, alleging that the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement bypassed standard competitive bidding to hand a sole-source blockchain analytics contract to rival TRM Labs.
The complaint, brought by Chainalysis Government Solutions, argues that DHS and ICE circumvented federal procurement rules that require open competition. The specific dollar value of the disputed contract has not been disclosed publicly, though TRM Labs has received multiple sole-source awards from ICE, some in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Chainalysis has historically held contracts worth tens of millions across federal agencies.
Both companies provide blockchain forensic tools used by law enforcement to trace crypto transactions in criminal investigations. ICE is among the more significant clients in the sector given its volume of digital asset cases.
