House subcommittee chair to examine offshore bets on Little League

Rep. Kevin Kiley, chairman of the House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education, announced he is planning a congressional examination of offshore gambling operators offering betting markets on Little League World Series games.

The announcement follows reports that unregulated offshore platforms have been taking significant action on youth baseball matchups during the tournament, which runs through August 30 in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Little League International has opposed wagering on its games for the second consecutive year, and the American Gaming Association confirmed that licensed US sportsbooks do not carry youth sports markets.

Kiley said a future hearing could bring together the AGA and other relevant organizations to discuss federal options. He noted that offshore operators present particular jurisdictional complications but argued the Little League World Series, as a major American institution, warrants congressional attention.

The move extends Kiley's subcommittee work on the commercialization of youth sports, which has previously examined private equity involvement and family financial burdens.

No prediction market contracts on youth sports competitions have been identified on regulated US platforms. The legislative pressure bears most directly on offshore operators and the payment processors that route funds to them.
