NBA names Kalshi and Polymarket preferred exchanges in prediction market push
The National Basketball Association on Monday named Kalshi and Polymarket its preferred prediction market exchanges, signing data-sharing agreements with both platforms and a separate memorandum of understanding with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission covering insider trading and fraud in basketball-related markets.
Under the commercial agreements, both exchanges gain access to official NBA data through Sportradar, the league's designated data partner, along with rights to NBA intellectual property for promotional use in the United States. NBA and team personnel are prohibited from trading NBA event contracts under the terms. The league also expanded its existing arrangement with DraftKings to cover prediction markets and said further operator agreements are expected.
CFTC Chairman Michael Selig framed the NBA's move as consistent with similar arrangements already in place with Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League, describing the pact as strengthening the regulator's ability to address misconduct in prediction markets.
The announcement arrives as the jurisdictional question governing all three of those partnerships remains unresolved. The Sixth and Ninth Circuits have ruled against Kalshi; the Third Circuit allowed it to continue operating in New Jersey pending appeal. The Supreme Court has been asked to review that split, with 39 states backing the petition. The NFL has not signed a comparable agreement with the CFTC, and Monday's announcement extends the gap between its position and those of the other three major leagues.
