Two ballot initiatives to legalize online sports betting in Nebraska have been certified for the November 3 general election, after the Secretary of State's office confirmed both petitions gathered sufficient valid signatures.
The measures are designed to work together. One would amend the state constitution; the other would establish the regulatory framework. The constitutional initiative required 138,473 valid signatures. The regulatory measure set a lower threshold of 96,918. More than 13,000 Lancaster County signatures had been flagged for potential irregularities before certification was confirmed.
If both pass, Nebraska's existing racetrack casinos could offer online sports betting directly or partner with up to two platforms each. Betting on games involving Nebraska college teams would remain prohibited under either scenario.
DraftKings and FanDuel have each committed millions to the campaign. BetMGM and WarHorse Gaming have also backed the push. Tax Relief Nebraska, the group sponsoring the initiatives, commissioned a study projecting up to $87 million in tax revenue over five years, with most proceeds directed to the state's Property Tax Credit Cash Fund.
