Underdog Sports has shut down its Drafts fantasy product in Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, with the closure timed to the start of the NFL season.
Chief executive Jeremy Levine confirmed the decision in a public statement, framing it as a forced choice under CFTC rules that prohibit companies offering federally regulated prediction market contracts from simultaneously operating fantasy sports products in those states. Underdog acquired the Aristotle Exchange DCM and DCO earlier this year to enter the prediction markets space.
Levine said his team could have preserved Drafts in all seven states by abandoning prediction markets. It did not. Submitted drafts will be settled; no new entries will be accepted.
