Stake Brasil wins court order blocking enforcement of Brazil's new betting measure
Brazil's 9th Federal Civil Court of São Paulo granted Stake Brasil a partial preliminary injunction on 12 October 2026, preserving the company's fixed-odds betting authorisation against Provisional Measure 1,394/2026. The order, effective until 25 October, prevents authorities from blocking Stake's website at stake.bet.br or imposing sanctions while the company operates within the court's conditions.
Stake Brasil says it is the first licensed operator to secure a ruling of this kind since the provisional measure took effect, making it currently the only licensed fixed-odds betting operator with confirmed legal cover to trade in Brazil.
The injunction does not strike down the provisional measure. It holds enforcement against Stake in suspension while the legal challenge proceeds. Operators that have not secured equivalent relief remain exposed to the measure's sanctions provisions.
No prediction market contract directly tracks Brazilian operator licensing outcomes. The ruling is relevant to any market pricing regulatory stability in Latin America's largest sports betting jurisdiction, where the licensed market launched in January 2025 and the government's willingness to act against compliant operators now faces its first judicial test.
