Czech Republic orders ISPs to block Kalshi within 15 days

Heath Quinn Junior Markets Analyst ·1 sources

The Czech Ministry of Finance added Kalshi to the country's list of unauthorised gambling operators on 30 September, giving internet service providers 15 days from that date to enforce a prohibition order against the platform.

The move makes the Czech Republic one of the first European Union member states to take direct blocking action against Kalshi following the platform's rapid international expansion. The prohibition order requires ISPs to cut off domestic access to the site, a mechanism Czech regulators have used previously against offshore betting operators that declined to seek local licences.

Kalshi holds no Czech gambling licence. The platform has argued in multiple jurisdictions that its event contracts are financial instruments regulated by the CFTC, not gambling products subject to national gaming law — an argument that has so far found more traction in US federal courts than in European regulatory proceedings.

A 15-day compliance window expiring in mid-October means enforcement begins before any legal challenge Kalshi might mount in Czech administrative courts could produce a stay. Whether Kalshi contests the order or withdraws from the Czech market entirely will be the next determinant.
