Two proposed class actions have been filed against Greenberg Traurig after the firm disclosed that sensitive personal information, including Social Security data, was accessed by an unauthorized actor and posted on the dark web.
The firm said only a limited number of clients were affected and that its systems were not compromised. A regulatory notice contradicted the limited framing: Social Security information was among the exposed data.
Greenberg Traurig joins WilmerHale as a named defendant in breach litigation. Quinn Emanuel, McDermott, HSF Kramer, and Goodwin have each disclosed separate cyber incidents without reaching the litigation stage.
The suits were filed as proposed class actions, meaning the plaintiff class has not yet been certified. Damages exposure turns on the scope of the affected population, which the firm has not quantified publicly.
