CBS News will air real-time contract prices from Kalshi during its midterm election coverage, the network confirmed on September 30, making Kalshi the official prediction market sponsor of CBS News. The arrangement places Kalshi's prices alongside the network's Battleground Tracker polling.
The deal lands against unfavorable public sentiment. A Reuters/Ipsos poll of 4,506 US adults, conducted between September 30 and October 5, found that 60% oppose using prediction markets to wager on election outcomes. Opposition holds across party lines: 69% of Democrats and 61% of Republicans disapprove. Separate questions found 65% oppose betting on military actions and 63% oppose wagering on government policy decisions.
Kalshi's current midterm prices give Democrats a 63% implied probability of controlling the Senate and 91% of taking the House. The Texas Senate race has drawn $16.43 million in trading volume, with Democrat James Talerico priced at 62%. Maine's Senate contest has logged $10.91 million, with challenger Troy Jackson at 59%.
