Court records filed in Hamlin County, South Dakota show that Kristi Noem, the former homeland security secretary fired by President Donald Trump in March, has filed for divorce from her husband Bryon Noem, citing irreconcilable differences.
The filing was signed by Noem's attorney Michael Sabers on 6 April, nine days after the Daily Mail published photographs of Bryon Noem wearing inflated fake breasts under a spandex shirt. Noem issued a statement at the time describing herself as "devastated" and said the family had been blindsided.
Bryon Noem's attorney Tim Bottum confirmed his client was "saddened that the marriage is ending" and said his priority was to protect the family.
The divorce filing closes a difficult period for Noem. She was dismissed from the Department of Homeland Security after Trump was reportedly angered by her congressional testimony regarding a taxpayer-funded publicity campaign promoting her public profile. At a 4 March hearing, a Democratic congressman asked her directly, under oath, whether she had a sexual relationship with aide Corey Lewandowski. She did not deny it. Trump fired her the following day. Markwayne Mullin has since been confirmed as her replacement.
