Kalshi bars three congressional candidates from betting on their own races
Kalshi has suspended three congressional candidates from its platform after they placed bets on their own election outcomes. The company confirmed the suspensions on 26 September, citing rules against self-referential trading by political candidates.
The cases mark the first time Kalshi has publicly enforced this restriction against active candidates. The platform did not name the individuals involved.
The enforcement action arrives as Kalshi fights federal and state regulators over whether political event contracts constitute gambling. A voluntary suspension policy that removes candidates who bet on themselves is consistent with the argument that the platform operates with integrity controls sportsbooks do not apply. It also demonstrates that the market's biggest integrity risk — insider information held by a candidate who knows their own ground game — was not theoretical.
