Witkoff and Kushner fly to Moscow and Kyiv with Trump peace plan

Eleanor Ashworth Senior Markets Analyst ·1 sources

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow on Saturday for talks with Vladimir Putin, carrying what Donald Trump described to reporters as "a proposal to end the war." They will travel to Kyiv on Sunday, where Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed he will meet them — the first such visit by Trump's envoys to Ukrainian soil.

A Russian drone struck the Kyiv office of SBU security chief Oleksandr Poklad on Friday. Poklad was unharmed. On Saturday, a Russian strike on Kamianske in the Dnipropetrovsk region killed four people and wounded five others, according to regional military administration head Oleksandr Ganzha.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to confirm details of the Moscow meeting but said officials would inform the public when contacts took place. Putin told an international economic forum Thursday that "there are chances" a peace deal could be reached.

Zelensky said he would guarantee safe passage through Ukrainian airspace for the envoys and called on Russia to reciprocate.

Prediction markets tracking a 2026 Ukraine ceasefire have been moving upward through the week. The shuttle itinerary — Moscow Saturday, Kyiv Sunday — represents the most structured diplomatic sequence since talks collapsed in spring 2022.
