Britain's Gambling Commission has opened an external search for a permanent Chief Executive Officer, advertising the role at a salary of £190,000, following the departure of Andrew Rhodes in March after five years leading the regulator.
The search comes with the Commission also missing an Executive Director, leaving the organisation without two of its most senior figures during a period of significant regulatory pressure across both traditional gambling and emerging prediction market products.
The Commission has been central to enforcement actions against operators — including the £5 million settlement with Rank Group over anti-money laundering failures — and is currently in discussions with Polymarket and Kalshi regarding potential UK market entry.
Whoever takes the role will inherit an active caseload and a regulator that the FCA and Treasury are watching closely as they determine how offshore prediction market platforms fit within existing UK financial and gambling frameworks.
