Kalshi investigates suspicious trades on White House press secretary pick
Kalshi is investigating three bets placed on Katie Zacharia shortly before she was named White House press secretary on 10 October 2026, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Before the announcement, Zacharia's odds on the platform sat at roughly 1 percent. The first trade, a $19 wager placed late on 9 October, stood to return $1,896. Two further bets followed on 10 October, minutes before the appointment was posted on Truth Social — one of approximately $74 with a potential payout of $3,689, another of approximately $80 that could have returned $4,023. Total stakes were under $175. Combined potential payouts exceeded $9,500.
A Kalshi representative confirmed the investigation without disclosing further details. The company has previously referred similar insider-trading matters to the CFTC, which regulates the platform. In July 2026, a CFTC probe focused on trades linked to the content of Trump speeches froze profits from related positions.
